Gas Engineer Callouts in Royal Wootton Bassett

No. The town is about 10 miles from Highworth and within the area I cover, so a single appliance is fine to ask about. If there are other gas or heating jobs waiting, mention them too and I'll say whether they can be looked at together.

Often it can, as long as there is a gas supply in the house that a new pipe can be taken from. The things to weigh up are where the nearest suitable pipe runs, whether it is large enough for the hob and the boiler together, and how a new pipe would reach the kitchen.

Staining or soot around a gas fire can mean it is not burning properly or that fumes are not clearing up the flue. Stop using it and have it checked. If anyone in the house feels unwell with headaches or dizziness, get fresh air and seek medical advice.

Look for cracks, kinks, stiffness or a hose that has been stretched when the cooker was pulled out. Hoses don't last forever, and if one is damaged the cooker shouldn't be used. Replacing it is a small gas job, followed by a tightness test.

The hob manufacturer gives minimum clearances to side walls, tall units and anything above, and those figures need to be met. If you are designing a kitchen, send me the hob model and a rough layout and I'll talk you through the spacing before the units are ordered.

It is a sensible thought, especially if the seller can't say when the boiler, fire or cooker were last looked at. Tell me what gas appliances are in the house and I'll say what I can help with.

The meter belongs to the supply side, so moving it is arranged through your energy supplier or the gas network rather than by me. The pipework after the meter is a separate matter, so tell me where your appliances need to be and I'll say what I can help with.

It depends, as a range cooker can use a lot more gas than an ordinary one, so the supply pipe has to deliver enough when the boiler is also running. The manufacturer's clearances and a stability bracket matter too. Send me the model and I'll talk you through what's involved.

A photo of the appliance, one of the gas connection behind it if you can reach it safely, and one of the gas meter area are all useful. Add your postcode and a line about what you'd like done, and that gives a clear picture of the job from the start.

Some gas appliances, particularly open-flued ones and certain fires, need a steady supply of air to burn safely. If a vent has been blocked or painted over during decorating, the appliance may not get enough. The ventilation an appliance needs is set out in its instructions, so it is worth making sure a vent hasn't been covered up.
