Gas and Heating Engineer for Royal Wootton Bassett, Town Hall to New-Build Estates

No. At about 10 miles from my Highworth base, Royal Wootton Bassett sits at the outer edge of the area I cover, and I travel there for all five services. Lydiard Millicent, Purton and Wroughton are the nearest neighbouring places I also cover.

Usually, yes. Modern estates further out tend to have combi boilers and compact pipework, while period homes near the centre more often have older systems. Servicing a recent combi and replacing an older system are quite different jobs, so tell me which you have.

Yes. The older buildings along the High Street, near the distinctive Town Hall on stilts, often have heating and plumbing that has been altered over time. I can look at servicing, repairs or a replacement suited to how the building is laid out.

Since gaining its Royal prefix in 2011 the town has added plenty of newer housing. Newer homes are often better insulated, so a smaller combi may suit them, while older homes nearby may need more output. The house itself matters more than the street it is on.

Manufacturers generally recommend servicing a gas boiler once a year. Booking it ahead of the colder months means worn parts can be spotted before you rely on the heating most, whether your home is a period property near the centre or a newer house on the edge of town.

Call the number on this site and describe what the boiler is doing, any fault code on the display, whether you still have hot water and what the pressure gauge reads. Those details give a useful early picture of what is likely wrong.

Yes. Plumbing covers bathroom plumbing, leaking pipes, dripping taps and pipework repairs. On newer estates the job is often a leaking fitting under a basin, while in older homes it can mean tracing older pipe runs. Photos of the problem help me understand it.

It can. The High Street can be busy, so if your property has rear access, a private space or a nearby car park you would suggest, include it in your message. It helps me plan how to get tools in without blocking the road.

That sound is often called kettling. It usually points to limescale or sludge building up on the heat exchanger, which restricts water flow so it overheats in spots. It is worth having looked at, as it puts strain on the boiler. Mention the noise when you book.

Yes, it is sensible for any home with gas appliances. Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm in the room with the boiler and test it regularly. If it sounds, open windows, turn off gas appliances, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.
