If your cylinder has an electric immersion heater, switching it on can give you hot water while the boiler is out of action. It is usually controlled by a separate switch near the cylinder. It won't heat the radiators, so mention the cylinder when you call, as it tells me what sort of system you have.

Check the fused switch on the wall next to the boiler is on, and that nothing has tripped at your consumer unit. If power is reaching the boiler and the display is still blank, it may be an internal electrical fault. Leave the casing on and call me.
