Blunsdon Gas and Heating Engineer, Heritage Railway to North Swindon's New Estates

Yes. Blunsdon is about 4 miles from my Highworth base, so it is one of the closest places I cover. That makes it practical to book servicing, breakdown repairs, installations, gas work or plumbing there.

Yes, both postcode districts are within my area, covering the established village homes and the newer estates built as North Swindon expanded. Haydon Wick, also in SN25, is next door and has its own page on this site.

Yes. The estates built as North Swindon has expanded tend to have modern combi or system boilers. These suit a yearly service and are usually straightforward to repair. Include the boiler make and model when you get in touch.

Often. The area around the Blunsdon House hotel mixes established homes with newer developments. Older houses can have regular boilers, cylinders and longer pipe runs, so servicing and replacement plans differ from those for a modern combi. Tell me which you have.

Yes. Homes near the heritage steam line, as well as the rest of the village and the surrounding estates, are within my area. Send your postcode and a description of the job, and I will come back to you.

The system may need balancing. That means adjusting the lockshield valve on each radiator so hot water is shared evenly, rather than rushing through the radiators nearest the boiler. It is a common issue in newer homes and is worth mentioning when you book.

It depends on the boiler's output and how much heat the house already needs. A small extension may be fine, while a larger one can push a boiler beyond what it can deliver. Tell me the boiler model and the size of the extension, and I can advise.

Frequent short bursts, known as short cycling, can come from a boiler that is oversized for the home, a thermostat in the wrong spot, low system pressure or a faulty sensor. It wastes energy and adds wear, so it is worth booking a breakdown or servicing visit.

Yes, that falls under bathroom plumbing. A constantly running cistern usually has a worn fill valve, outlet valve seal or float, and it can waste a lot of water. Let me know the type of toilet and send a photo inside the cistern if you can.

Turn the heating off and let the radiators cool. Use a radiator key on the bleed valve at the top corner, holding a cloth underneath, and close it once water appears. Then check the boiler pressure gauge and top it up to about 1 to 1.5 bar if needed.
