It can be. Range cookers often need more gas than a typical cooker, and older pipework might not have been sized for that, especially if the boiler shares the same run. The supply needs checking before a range cooker is connected, and it may need upgrading first.

A clear photo of the appliance and its connection is the most useful single thing, along with your postcode. If you also say whether the house is an older cottage or a newer home, I can get a sense of the pipework before I arrive.

Generally in the same room as the fire, positioned as the alarm maker's instructions describe. Older cottages with chimneys benefit from one because a blocked flue can cause fumes to spill back into the room. An alarm is a useful warning, not a substitute for a check.

It is best not to. A healthy hob flame is mostly blue and steady. An orange, lazy flame can mean the burner is dirty or blocked, or that the gas isn't burning properly. Turn it off, let it cool, and get it looked at.
